Words on paper…

Words on paper, scratches, dashes, lines scrawl

As though so much wasted lead tattooing lines in empty space

Giving voice to what is hidden away yet held quit firmly in place

As evidence of promises laced with lies that from your lips do fall

Words on paper, parts, pieces, spaces carefully left

As though so much wasted time spent etching each thought

Giving air to breathless fear learned over years so deeply wrought

As grief and loss in what you’ve taken now leaves my heart bereft

Words on paper, saying, speaking, silent yet so clearly

As though so much wasted space filled in hopeless despair

Giving movement to what is locked away meant not to share

As confirmation the end has come and you have cost me dearly

Words on paper, just words, nothing more.
